TRANZnet was formed in 1991, at a seminar held in Shepparton, Victoria. It was decided that the establishment of a "Road Transport Industry Trainer Network" would help standardise Training, lead to better quality control of both Trainers and Training and give Trainers from "remote" areas an information source to draw on. It was also agreed, that the main objective of the Network should be to provide support to Trainers within the Industry and become a vital link between Trainers, the Industry, the Regulators, the Industry Training Boards and the like. Finally, at this inaugural meeting it was determined that no individual Company, Government body or training group would control TRANZnet, it should be totally independent. As members are spread over such vast distances, it was established that it would only be practical to meet annually and this should be done at an annual conference.

truck-history

TRANZnet refers to the Network of Australian and New Zealand transport and related industries' training professionals. From this early beginning, TRANZnet has now expanded its scope to include the whole training and assessment communities of Transport and their related industries. Following a submission to the Chairman of the Road Transport Forum in 1995, now the Australian Trucking Association, endorsement of the work and goals of TRANZnet was gained.

In 2002 TRANZnet become an Incorporated Association and launched the TRANZnet website. By 2008 TRANZnet realised it needed to conduct a major review of the Association, which resulted in an update of many of its "day to day" activities including a change to its logo and the format of its name to TRANZnet. August 2009 heralded further expansion for TRANZnet with the incorporation of the NRAA (National Registered Assessors Association). This not only increased membership numbers, but more importantly added further scope to our services.

In 2012, TRANZnet set about a major task of developing a unique “on-line” database facility that enabled clients to find the services offered by its members. 2013 saw another major review which led to an update of TRANZnet’s Code of Conduct, an expansion of its purposes and an overhaul of the website to make it “mobile friendly” and the introduction of social media. As TRANZnet has been purely not for profit and run by hard working volunteers it has survived its critics and the test of time. The Network has not only consolidated its membership, but also expanded its diversity and has continued to develop its goals.

The tasks ahead for TRANZnet are to, achieve a higher profile within the industry both here and in New Zealand, encourage more involvement from associated industries and the New Zealand membership, expand corporate support and develop strategies to address the critical aspects of operator shortages.

I have been involved with industry related training for nearly 20 years, all of this with Master Drive Services Limited of which I am a director. Master Drive provides education and training for Drivers, Operators, Instructors and Assessors and is a nationwide NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) approved driver training company and a New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) registered private training establishment (PTE) - this being the equivalent of an Australian RTO.

My membership of TRANZnet has spanned the last 15 years and I have been a member of the executive committee for 10 years.

Whilst the bulk of TRANZnet members are Australian based there is a strong network of current and past committee members who have offered their support to me in taking on the President’s role and I am confident that this support will help me lead your executive committee to deliver to members’ expectations.

At the recent Conference in Brisbane attending members offered a number of suggestions as to how TRANZnet can provide meaningful services to them. We will review these suggestions and form a plan to deliver on these areas of interest to members.

TRANZnet is your professional network. It is intended to provide opportunities for collaboration, moderation, validation and continuing development. The TRANZnet Conference is a key part of that. Please remember that it needs every member’s support to continue on an annual basis.

Our website is a focal point for our members and we will continue to communicate via that and other social media as appropriate. Member feedback on what you would like included on the web site is vital. So please, tell us what you are looking for.

TRANZnet President
